Daft Punk’s ‘One More Time’ is the French football team’s official FIFA 2026 World Cup goal song.

As per updated audio rules for this summer’s tournament, the national sport associations of competing countries have been able to submit individual choices for tunes that should be played after goals and other key match moments.

The France team — currently ranked second in the world and odds-on favourites to win the final — began their World Cup campaign on Tuesday (16th June) with a 3-1 victory over Senegal. Legendary Daft Punk track ‘One More Time’ rang out across New Jersey’s MetLife stadium three times as a result, including two goals from striker Kylian Mbappé, which you can watch back below.

England opened their own World Cup campaign yesterday (17th June) by beating Croatia 4-2, giving fans their first taste of the FA’s choice for goal song, ‘Chase the Sun’ by Planet Funk. Something of a step change from the last global football tournament in Qatar, when Gala’s ‘Freed From Desire’ was an unofficial anthem.

Other tracks that have soundtracked the 2026 tournament so far include Peter Schilling’s 1980 synth-pop gem, ‘Major Tom’, selected by Germany’s DFB football association. Meanwhile, FIFA has also compiled an extensive tournament compilation of its own, which includes work by David Guetta, Megan Thee Stallion, and Andrea Bocelli. Earlier this month, Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter played a surprise DJ set on Brooklyn independent station, The Lot Radio.

A few days before, the artist was interviewed by The Times and asked (again) about the prospect of Daft Punk reuniting for more shows and studio work. “I’m really happy that throughout our long run we were able to not screw it up,” he shared. “There are other things to explore.”

Earlier this year, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of Daft Punk’s ‘Discovery’, we asked 21 artists, fans and affiliates to share their personal reflections on the classic album, from their memories of the first time they heard it, to the myriad ways it influenced their own practice.
